Lim Wee Chai

Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, aged 58 as at 2016, a Malaysian citizen, is the Chairman and Founder of the Top Glove Group of Companies. Established in 1991, the Group was listed on Bursa Malaysia (the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange) on March 2001 and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) on June 2016.

Lim graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in Physics in 1982 from University Malaya, Malaysia, and received his Master of Business Administration in 1985 from Sul Ross State University, Texas, United States of America. In October 2015, he obtained his PhD in Management from University of Selangor, Malaysia. On May 2016, he was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by Oklahoma City University, United States of America.

Lim is the driving force behind Top Glove’s resounding success. What started as a glove manufacturing and trading business with only three production lines has under his visionary stewardship emerged as the world’s largest rubber glove manufacturer, capturing 25% of the global market share.

The company currently owns and operates 28 factories across Malaysia, Thailand and China with a total of 484 production lines and a production capacity of 45 billion pieces of gloves per annum. It serves a growing network of over 2,000 customers in 200 countries. As at 1st August 2016, Top Glove Corporation Berhad’s market capitalization stood at RM 5.4 billion or USD 1.35 billion.

Lim has been actively involved in many associations and organizations in Malaysia. He has served as Vice President of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) since 2013. He holds the roles of Honorary President of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce and Honorary Advisor of the Klang Chinese Chamber of Commerce. He has also been appointed as EPF Director / Board Member (2015 to 2017), as well as Director / Board Member of University of Malaya (2015 to 2018). Previous positions held include President of the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers’ Association (MARGMA) from 1997-1999, Vice-President, Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of MARGMA, Director of the Association of Malaysia Medical Industries (AMMI) and Board Member of the Malaysia Rubber Board in 1998-1999.

A testament to his entrepreneurial prowess, Lim has garnered several awards such as the prestigious accolade Master and Country Entrepreneur of Malaysia for the Year, by Ernst and Young in 2004; Entrepreneur of the Year at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2008; The BrandLaureate Brand Icons Leadership Award in 2011; Manufacturer Man of the Year 2013 by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation and the Asian Icon Award (World Class Entrepreneur) in 2014. In April 2016, he was honored with the 2016 Malaysian Leadership Excellence Award, by the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM).

In recognition of his vast contributions to the nation’s economic development, in 2007 he was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M) which carries the title “Tan Sri” by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia.
